Hike and Mariners

June 14, 2014: Hubby and Z went on a day hike with C and his Dad. They had such a great time checking out stuff. Later that evening we went to the Mariners vs. Texas Rangers baseball game with our Cub Scout pack. Of course Z wore his Texas Rangers hat to irritate everyone :-).

June 13, 2014: Z went fishing with hubby. We lived super close to the lake so they would go every once in a while. The boy caught a big fish. They catch and release so no fishes were harmed.

March 16, 2014:  Literally! But first, a little back story. We were driving to take C back to Portland on of the times he came to visit and Z saw the advertisement on the marquee at the Tacoma Dome that the PBR (Professional Bull Riding) would be there in March. And since he did a big presentation on the Rodeo when he was in 3rd grade he really wanted to see bull riding (one of the events in rodeos). So we bought tickets to go and the countdown until PBR started.

So March 16 finally arrived and we had to rush home from zoo camp so we could get cleaned up in time to drive to Tacoma for the PBR. We had the best seats and were so close to the event floor. We sure had a great time and it brought back so many memories of when I used to go to the Houston Rodeo when I was younger. Boy do I miss Texas now! Z thought it was super cool and the event was on ESPN too! And don’t get me started on the crazy rodeo clowns, love those guys! After the show, the bull riders went around and signed autographs for all the kids. These group of young men were so polite and kind to take time out for the kids. Z talked about how cool the show was the whole way home. And when he got home he proudly displayed his autographed program on his dresser and it is still there. (I am a bit late in this posting)

March 15-15, 2014: Our Cub Scout Pack did another overnight camp at the zoo but this time I got to go with Z. It was so much fun! We got to meet and sleep in the Zoomazium and got to go tour the zoo at night. The program was called “a Zoo Keeper’s Life” so we got to experience some of the behind the scenes that the zoo keepers get to do. We also got to see where all the food is stored for all the animals. We even got to go into the freezer there they keep freeze dried animals that they use for food. The biggest frozen animal we saw was a big bunny but they said they have frozen horse parts for the lions, etc. Creepy huh! The kids loved it! Well, at least my kid did 🙂

We got to eat dinner in the Zoomazium and had a close encounter session with a snake and a blue tongued skink. Yes, I touched them both. The boys also got to make enrichment boxes for some birds that they put out for the birds the next morning. After the zoo tour the kids got to play on the playscape and then we settled in for the night. We woke to some silly music that the tour guides played and after breakfast we went on another tour of the zoo. This time we got to see some animals just waking up. The wolves were the coolest part.

We couldn’t stay and hang out at the zoo after the program because we had tickets to another activity. See next post 🙂

March 9, 2014: Z and B decided today would be a great day for us to go out to geo cache for the first time. So B loaded a geo caching app on his phone, we leashed the dogs and off we went to a local park. Ok, geo caching takes patience and I am not the best with patience! We only found the first cache right away! How cool is that! Z was so excited! So, we were off to the next one. Only this one wasn’t so easy to find. We spent a ton of time looking for the second one in the freaking rain and never found it. I think someone moved it and didn’t report it. Regardless, we did have a fun time walking around the park and even let the dogs run around in the dog park area of the park. It was a win-win for everyone 🙂 I certainly see more geo caching in our future – just not in the rain 🙂

February 28, 2014: Yep, these guys waited until last minute to get their cars made for the Pinewood Derby 🙂 Personally, I think these two work best under pressure and love to watch me self destruct because of the stress they cause me by waiting until last minute.

B makes Z take a major role in making his car each year. Z always comes up with his personal spin on what his car should look like. This year he wanted his initials craved out in the center of the car. What a great idea! I love his design! Z had to be very careful when he worked with the dremmel tool. SInce he carved out so much of the car, they had to load liquid weights into the back of the car. Hubby makes Z do the melting. I know I should be nervous watching Z work the torch but instead I am all in the way trying to get the perfect pictures. Because it is all about the pictures, right!

The other car shown below was B’s car, he named it “Biohazard”.

February 19-24, 2014: Z decided he didn’t want to have a birthday party this year for his 10th birthday. Instead he only wanted his best friend to come stay with us to help him celebrate his birthday. It so happened that Z was out of school for winter break but C was still in school in Portland. So we asked if he could maybe skip a day of school to come here. T needed up allowing C to skip school for two days! So C got to come stay with us for an extended weekend of boy fun!

Before the fun could begin, we had a Cub Scout obligation to do at our Chartered Organization so C came along for the fun. The Kiwanis Club members are always so welcoming to our scouts and they even had a cake for us. They served all of us lunch and then our scouts put on a program for the members. We talked about all the fun things in scouting that we get to do and each scout talked about certain topics. We put on a skit and even played BINGO with the members. I think C had fun sitting with B and watching.

As soon as the Kiwanis program concluded these boys went full force playing. I am always so proud at how they play. They never fight or argue. They get along perfectly. We took the boys to drive go-karts and they got to jump on the velcro wall, we took them roller skating and even to an indoor pool with slides, and stuff. We even hit the Lego Store at the mall and went to dinner at The Ram. I would say it was a perfect birthday extended weekend for Z with his bestest friend! Thank you T for letting us keep C!

February 9, 2014: We had a feeling that it was going to snow overnight and it sure did! We woke up to the prettiest blanket of white outside! Ahh the look of fresh snow is gorgeous! But we didn’t get much and it quit snowing so we knew Z better get to playing in it before it melted. Z always loves to make a snowman so that is exactly what he and hubby started to do. I think the guy turned out pretty cool looking! The added hair is thanks to Echo and Shadow who got brushed. Great creation guys!

February 1, 2014: We went to a huge Lego event at City Hall. They had tons of Legos set up for kids to look at and play with. Now this was pure torture for me but pure heaven for Z and hubby. They could build Legos for hours. Me, not so much! I played along for a little bit but I have no Lego building talent so I just enjoyed watching them build stuff. We even ran into some friends there. The newspaper was there covering the event but they didn’t do any pieces that focused on Z and hubby. When the newspaper came out, hubby was in one of the pictures but he had his body turned so not very noticeable. But, hey – we will take it 🙂
