July 2, 2014: Z and I went to the Point Defiance Zoo with L and her kids. It was a gorgeous day outside and absolutely perfect for a new zoo exploration. We got to pet stingray, ride camels, hand feed birds, watch a cute animal show, and see lots of cool animals. Z even took a bunch of pictures. He is the one that took the cool tiger and squirrel picture. What a great day with friends!

Z and Roo

Posted: January 30, 2016 in Friends in town, Summer Time

June 22 – 27, 2014: C (Roo) came to stay with us again. Z and C are the bestest of friends and they always have a great time together! We always stop at the store to stock up on junk food for the boys and today was no different. Check out the shopping cart of crap.

The boys had such a blast! They played video games, Jenga, played outside, had their trampoline time, had water fights, went roller skating, went to the indoor pool fun place in Lynnwood, went to the park, and gobs more stuff. Love these boys so much!!!2014-06-22 16.01.082014-06-22 16.47.532014-06-24 22014-06-24 13.58.082014-06-24 14.15.322014-06-24 14.17.20-12014-06-24 14.18.482014-06-24 14.39.232014-06-25 13.54.392014-06-25 14.10.242014-06-25 15.18.302014-06-25 17.06.372014-06-26 12.57.012014-06-27 11.17.38

Blackberry Jam

Posted: March 8, 2014 in Around the House, Summer Time

August 23, 2013: Hubby had the bright idea of making homemade jam like he did once when we were living in OR. It didn’t take too long to convince Z to join in. They enjoy doing projects together and anything that I am against they love to do. You see, making jam means a messy kitchen and I don’t want any part of that ūüôā So it was decided….homemade jam it was going to be. So the guys set out to pick blackberries and they went to pick out containers for their world famous jam. The process takes such a long time because they make seedless blackberry jam. Z did such a great job and really seemed to enjoy making jam. Of course eating the finished product was the best. YUMMY! They even shared some jars with some friends.

Here are some pictures while sealing the jars.

Best Buds

Posted: March 8, 2014 in Friends, Summer Time

August 12 – August 18, 2013: Z’s bestest friend in the whole wide world got to come stay with us for a few days. These boys always have such a great time together and never ever fight. Yes, sometimes they disagree but they talk it out and never yell at each other. I know – it’s amazing huh!

We get C as often as we can get him since we live so close – he lives in Portland so it isn’t too far. We always come up with a ton of fun things for the boys to do but for this visit we mainly stayed home. They didn’t mind though. They got super creative this time and made forts. I remember doing this when I was a kid so it was fun to see that kids still do that thing. They tried to sleep in their fort the first night but it was too hot so we brought out the air mattress. They also had fun playing hockey, football, video games, roasting marshmallows, and they even made pop guns. Of course brownies were involved – that is a request C always has when he comes to visit.

When it was time for C to go home, Z and I drove him home and stayed at T’s house for a couple days. The gang was together again.

August 4, 2013: We met T and her kids at Chuck E Cheese for some fun before picking up C and T to come back to our house to spend the night. Of course the kids had fun playing games but they had even more fun when they got to the house and played street hockey outside.

Cub Scout Hike

Posted: March 7, 2014 in Cub Scouts, Summer Time

July 20, 2013: Before both of the big summer camps with scouts, we went on a hike at Twin Falls in North Bend with our cub scout pack. A bunch of the boys and parents in the pack met early in the morning and we went on a nice hike up to see the falls. Then we stopped for lunch and let the kids play in the water. It was a nice day!

Cub Scout Day Camp

Posted: March 7, 2014 in Cub Scouts, Summer Time

July 30 – August 2, 2013: After only being home a day from cub scout resident camp, it was time to attend another week long camp. Bring on summer day camp! Z got to attend with¬†quite a few scouts from his cub scout pack so it was great knowing some of the boys attending. This time it was mom’s turn to attend camp with Z. ¬† I volunteered as a camp official for the week so I got to help with the running of the camp. This was Z’s third time to attend summer day camp with scouting and always has a great time. Plus each year either B or I would volunteer for the week. Camp was from 9-2 each day of the week but we would get there early and stay late since I was volunteering. Z was such a good sport about going early and staying late. Since Z was a “webelos” scout his camp program varied a little from the other scouts. He got to do a few different things like making arrowheads (very cool), pounded out metal bowls, popguns, catapults, and a cool wooden shelf/drawer, etc. They also got to do the regular program which included sports, archery, bb gun shooting, skills, cooking, woodworking, crafts, etc. The days are so full that we both went home each day exhausted. It was a fun week and we ended the week with a campfire – only there as a burn ban and it was raining. So we pretended :). Z came home earning 7 awards. So another busy week.

Cub Scout Resident Camp

Posted: March 7, 2014 in Cub Scouts, Summer Time

July 25- July 28, 2013: Z and hubby went to resident camp with a few of the scouts in our cub scout pack; I stayed home. All the scouts/dads got to set up camp in an¬†adirondack cabin, which is a 3 sided shelter. It was a pretty rickety cabin that was infested with bugs but once the dads got it all cleaned out it was perfect. They slept in that for 4 nights – good thing it wasn’t too hot. They got to do a lot of fun stuff like canoeing, swimming (after taking a swim test), relay races, archery, bb gun shooting, leather and wood crafts, whittling, fishing, dining hall chores, hikes, leaned about plants and ones that can kill you (that seemed to be his favorite), campfires, skits, knot tying, and more. Each day was filled with tons of activities it’s no wonder why he came home earning 10 awards. ¬†So needless to say, they got home they were exhausted.

Indiana Family Visit

Posted: March 7, 2014 in Relatives, Summer Time, Vacation

June 26-July 10, 2013: We decided that it was time to go visit our Indiana family again since the last time Z and I was there was in the summer of 2011. Z and I usually make this trip alone as hubby needs to stay home with the dogs and work. Z and I always have so much fun visiting so this time we planned a much longer stay. We stay with my cousin and her family and Z gets some great cousin time in, and I get bonding time with H.

This visit we were able to have a family reunion over at my cousin J’s house. It was so nice to see family that I hadn’t seen in ages and Z had a great time meeting more of the family. We even got to shoot off fireworks at J’s house – AWESOME! Z even handled the giant torch to light the fireworks. He did such a good job. Another “first” during this trip was Z got to go to the farm with his cousin to see her with her cow. She is in 4H and does such a great job raising and caring for a baby cow. During our trip, Z and I got to spend the night at my Grandma’s house and we really enjoyed looking at old pictures of my mom and we got to visit her grave site. I even learned that my Grandma is an awesome artist – who knew. ¬†And of course we did the usual stuff we always do when we visit; park, zoo, swim, play outside, stay up late, midnight snacks….the list goes on. But the best part is with each visit we get closer to my family!

Ok, I know…I am crazy! I started a Cub Scout Pack at Z’s school. You see, we belonged to a Pack when we first moved here and we weren’t happy with it and we couldn’t move to another Pack and be near Z’s school and friends. So I called the local council for the Boy Scouts of American and decided to take on the project of starting a new Pack. I must say, it has been very time consuming and very stressful but in the end I would do it all over again! Z loves Scouts so it is worth it to me!

So back to this post. Aug 23, 2012 there as a back to school event at the school so my friend, J, got our new Pack a table at the event to recruit boys to scouting. Z and I worked the entire day trying to sign boys up. C and T from the council came to help us as well (honestly without their help I would be lost!). In the afternoon, L and J came to help recruit too. At the end of the day we had 11 boys signed up and looking forward to signing even more up at the first Pack meeting in September.
