Trip to Arizona Dad Turns 70

Posted: January 30, 2016 in Birthdays, Relatives

April 8 – 15, 2014: Z and I went to Arizona for a surprise birthday party for my Dad. He turned 70 years old and decided to finally retire (again for the billionth time). He though we were there since it was our spring break from school so we did the usual things; mini golf, lots of card golf, golf kart rides, family visits, the casino, and even went to Kartchner Caverns State Park. We had such a nice visit! And the party was a big hit! Z had the job of keeping Grandpa busy away from the house until a certain time. They went to the Challenger Museum and for a quick ice cream treat. Z did such a great job watching the time and getting his Grandpa to the surprise party on time.

Indiana Family Visit

Posted: March 7, 2014 in Relatives, Summer Time, Vacation

June 26-July 10, 2013: We decided that it was time to go visit our Indiana family again since the last time Z and I was there was in the summer of 2011. Z and I usually make this trip alone as hubby needs to stay home with the dogs and work. Z and I always have so much fun visiting so this time we planned a much longer stay. We stay with my cousin and her family and Z gets some great cousin time in, and I get bonding time with H.

This visit we were able to have a family reunion over at my cousin J’s house. It was so nice to see family that I hadn’t seen in ages and Z had a great time meeting more of the family. We even got to shoot off fireworks at J’s house – AWESOME! Z even handled the giant torch to light the fireworks. He did such a good job. Another “first” during this trip was Z got to go to the farm with his cousin to see her with her cow. She is in 4H and does such a great job raising and caring for a baby cow. During our trip, Z and I got to spend the night at my Grandma’s house and we really enjoyed looking at old pictures of my mom and we got to visit her grave site. I even learned that my Grandma is an awesome artist – who knew. ¬†And of course we did the usual stuff we always do when we visit; park, zoo, swim, play outside, stay up late, midnight snacks….the list goes on. But the best part is with each visit we get closer to my family!

Z’s Story Quilt

Posted: June 20, 2013 in Relatives, School

May 18, 2013: Z had an assignment from class to interview someone at least two generations older than him and create a story quilt and presentation to share with the class. Z chose his Great Grandmother Alice for this project. He called her one weekend and asked her several questions. He really had a great time listening to her answers and learning about her childhood. He especially liked hearing about some of the times she got in trouble.

He did a fabulous job on his story quilt and presentation. He got the highest score he could get on both the quilt and presentation. So proud of you Z!

I think his story quilt looks awesome!

Aug 12 – Aug 18, 2012 Z’s grandparents from AZ came to visit us. We haven’t seen them in a while so it was wonderful that they got to come visit us! We sure have a great time with them! Since they had never been to Seattle, we took them to the Space Needle. Grandma B gets very motion sick so we were worried she wouldn’t be able to go to the top. But she did great! So proud of her for pushing through. I must say that after walking around the top of the needle, she turned a terrible shade of green and we all began to worry. So we pumped her with a trial mix bar and something to drink and she perked right back up. So glad we went! And it was such a lovely day!

We also went to Pine Lake to look around and we took them to XXX Burgers for the world’s largest rootbeer floats. You should have seen their eyes when the server brought the float to our table. They are HUGE but so yummy!

And as usual we all played tons of board games. We sure are going to miss them when they go back home ūüė¶

Z and I will have to make a point to get to see them this next summer!

2-25-2012: YEAH! Z turns 8 years old today! Hubby decorated Z’s room during the night so when Z got up he was so surprised! There was a ton of balloons on the floor and lots of red streamers hanging from the ceiling. What fun! Good job B!

We stayed home today and one of my best friends, T, came to visit Z for his special day. Of course she brought her beautiful kids to help Z celebrate his special day; we had a little party for Z. We ordered pizza and had cake! It was so great to see T and her kids again! T is family to us and Z and two boys pretty much grew up together before we moved to TX. So it was like a family reunion! Those kids had a blast playing! T and I caught up; I just love her to death! It was a perfect day with family!

Happy 8th Birthday Z! We love you so very much! We are so proud of you!

He just loves the decor in his room!

Love this goofy picture.

Z and the kids - or should I say his family.

12-26-2011: I know, the day after Christmas is not the best to start packing for a huge move. But we had no choice. Papa R and E spent the night so they would be at the house to help keep Z entertained and to help with the chaos. And man was it crazy! Hubby had an eye appointment at 7:30am and wasn’t there when the packers showed up to start packing the house. There was 3 guys and holy cow they were fast! It seemed like every time I went looking for something we needed for the drive, it was already packed. The guys were very kind when I asked them to unpack boxes to find whatever it was I felt I needed. It was insane at my house that is for sure! Boxes everywhere! We kept the dogs in the backyard so they wouldn’t disturb the packers. That didn’t last long. I felt so sorry for them peeking in the door looking like “what the heck is going on in there”. Poor pups!

One of the best things about packing day was the fabulous brownies I had that my dear friend S brought over. Ahhhh….they were so delicious! And that peanut butter icing was heavenly! Who cared about the calories! I mean I deserved the treat since we WERE moving the day after Christmas. Haha….

While everyone else was out shopping and enjoying the after Christmas sales, we were at the house getting packed for our move.

Just a few of the zillion boxes that were used!

This is who we used for our move.

OH WAIT!!! We will need these in WA...please don't pack them!

Before I knew it my kitchen was well underway! Did I mention they moved fast!

Sad Shadow wondering what the heck!

Echo girl was not to happy either!

Even Biscuit was concerned! Who knows about Tiger...he was hiding the whole time!

Z played the Wii until they pried the controllers out of his hands to pack.

Papa R hanging out with Z.

E loving on Z too!

Alright guys, you can come in but don't bother the packers.....yeah right!

It's ok Echo....it will be ok girl!

Hubby is home from his eye appointment just in time for brownies!

Nothing better than coffee and brownies!

This is the pile of crap we need to fit in the car along with the three of us, 2 big dogs and 2 cats.

We had some visitors on 12-28-2011. I wish I would have gotten some pics of S’s visit on 12-27. I am sure going to miss everyone!!!

The 3 M's!

12-25-2011: It is finally Christmas morning! Z was so excited to see what goodies Santa left. He also enjoys rushing to the plate of goodies to see if Santa ate his treats. As usual, the snacks were just about gone. Santa must love egg nog! We had a wonderful relaxing morning in our pajamas; like usual. Hubby and I had a great time watching Z open his gifts. Z gasped and yelled with excitement as he opened each gift this year. (Makes me smile just thinking about it!) Papa R and E even came to spend the day with us. I made dinner for us all but not too much since the movers were coming the next day. We even had to take down all our Christmas decorations before the movers came. So the morning/afternoon was about relaxing and spending time with family. The evening was for rolling up our sleeves and getting to work.

Santa came!!!

Check out my stocking filled with goodies!

We even got stuff for Echo and Shadow!

Z spent his own money on our Christmas gifts. Love my jelly beans!

Thought this would be good for the long drive to WA!

Thanks Mom!

The dogs are still playing tug of war with the new toys.

Hubby picked up Z's new scout shirt while he was in WA. We are all ready for our new scout pack!

Hubby even got Z school stuff from his new school in WA.

Check out all the stuff. WOW!

Working on the Mindstorms together.

So glad Papa R and E came to spend our last holiday in TX with us. We will really miss them!!!

Love you guys so much!

Thanksgiving Day 2011

Posted: March 26, 2012 in Holidays, Relatives

11-24-2011: Thanksgiving Day was different for us this year. Hubby came home from WA to spend Thanksgiving with us. His Dad and Stepmom came to celebrate with us as well. Instead of cooking this year, we went to Cannoli Joe’s for dinner. We really enjoy going there because there is such a variety but this time it wasn’t as good as normal. T didn’t like it one bit. I felt terrible for her that she couldn’t find anything to eat that she enjoyed. After dinner, we took our traditional Christmas card photo. Hubby’s Dad usually takes the picture for us each year so it was no different this year. Thanks R!

After we left the restaurant, we stopped at the gas station for gas. As we sat in the car waiting for the gas to pump, we saw a homeless man and his dog sitting on the curb. Since it was Thanksgiving, we got $10 out and hubby took it to the man. He was beyond thankful for our gesture. Once hubby got back in the car we were all crying. I pulled out another $10 to give to the man. He was the nicest man and oh so grateful. We left there crying and thinking of others not as fortunate as us and how we helped a man and his dog. Happy Thanksgiving!

This is the photo we will use for our Christmas cards this year.

Back at home playing Wii games!

August 20, 2011 РPapa R and E came to stay the weekend with us before Z officially started school. We had a great visit! T and I went shopping like we always do and the guys played Wii! I cooked the whole time they were here, which is a first for me. And of course there was more shooting rockets! We have become obsessed with shooting rockets! We had a great visit with Papa R and E. Come back soon!

August 1 – August 8, 2011 Z and I went to Arizona to see my Dad and Stepmom¬†for a week. Of course it was insanely hot there! I think it was just about as hot as hell would be by my estimation ūüôā but we survived!

Z absolutely loves his grandparents and was so excited to go visit them! They always want to play with him and they love games so he was on cloud 9 the whole trip! The day we got there was for resting and then we jumped right into the schedule that B made for the week. We went to play putt putt¬†golf, traveled to see my step sister and step brother and they adorable kids. We even got to spend the night with R. Z sure had fun playing with her kids! J is the same age as Z so they were pretty much inseparable¬†while we were there. While at R’s house, we hit the water park, went to the children’s¬†museum, went to an ice cream shop, went to a swap meet, attended C’s birthday party at Chuck E Cheese, had a fish fry and swam in her pool. When we went back to my dad’s house we brought J with us to spend a couple nights. The boys stayed up late and watch movies (sorry R, but they had a great time). One day was guys day and girls day. The guys went to play golf, visit Cabella’s, shopping, and hit the comic book shop. At home they flew helicopters that grandpa bought for them. Meanwhile, B and I hit the casino! I love that place! I did really good then gave it all back to the machines plus $20. Oh well. Then I was surprised with another trip to the casino with my dad. Had a blast and did really well again but gave that all back too plus $15. I will never learn!

In the end our trip to Arizona was amazing! We had a great time! Thank you E and B so very much for the opportunity for Z and I to come visit you! I love you very much!
