Flat Z

Posted: April 25, 2011 in Friends, General Information, School

I bet you are wondering about this post. Well to back track some, Z’s class did a project based off the books Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. Basically they were to make a picture of themselves and send to someone in the mail. That person was to take the Flat person around with them and take pictures of his adventures and send an update back to school. Well, Z just insisted on sending his Flat Z to his Auntie T in Oregon! Well, we just got back the project Auntie T worked on with her family and Z took it to school today to share with his class. He was thrilled to get it back and to get to share it! Auntie T even included pencils and stickers for each student in Z’s class. What a treat! Thank you T! You are the BEST!

Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011. Z got up before us but sat on the couch in the dark so he wouldn’t be able to find all the eggs. Once we realized he was awake and waiting to hunt eggs, B and I flew out of bed. Z was already dressed and ready to hunt some eggs. He had already scoped out his easter basket. He said the bunny did a great job on his basket this year. So once we got our coffee and the camera in hand, Z went to town hunting eggs. The bunny hid plastic eggs inside and the colored hard boiled eggs in the front yard. That silly bunny! Z even left some carrots out for the bunny to snack on and that bunny ate a bunch of them and left some on the mantle. That silly bunny!

After the eggs were all found, opened and the basket torn apart, we had breakfast. Can you say cinnamon rolls!!! YUMMM. After a lazy morning, we all showered and went to J’s house to have dinner. There J had the kids do an Easter egg hunt. There were TONS of eggs and cookies in her backyard. She served the best dinner and we had a great time with friends! And as always, S made the bestest cakes! She is so darn talented! It was so thoughtful for S to invite us to her family’s Easter dinner. We all had an awesome time! Thanks J for having us and to S for inviting us!

After we got home, we let Z stay up later than normal playing with some of his Easter gifts – LEGOS and more LEGOS! That boy is so lucky!

Shadow and Echo trying to see what all the comotion was about! Yes, they have their paws on the kitchen table.

Below are the pictures from J’s house.

Saturday, April 23, 2011 – We had a great family day again today! We spent the morning relaxing and doing a few chores around the house. Then we colored our Easter eggs. We didn’t color as many this year as we have done in the past. But Z sure did have fun doing them. Probably because we let him color them all this year 🙂 Usually we all color the eggs and it takes forever and is a mess! This year it was much more reasonable. We got the pictures for my scrapbook and even finished within a decent amount of time. We bored the doggies though, you will see a picture of them below. After we colored the eggs, we went to The Olive Garden for a great meal. Then lastly, to the store to shop for Easter day. We even came home and watched a few episodes of America’s Funniest Videos. Z thinks those are hysterical! Great family day!

Soccer Practice

Monday, April 18, 2011 was another soccer practice for Z. Hubby is the assistant coach for Z’s team so you will see him in these pictures too. Z really seems to like soccer and is really doing a great job at it! Go Blue Dragon Ninjas! That is the name of their team 🙂

Well, April 17, 2011 was the day I turned 43 years young. It was a perfect day. I got to sleep in and when I finally got up, I had the best gifts waiting for me on the kitchen table. When I sat down at the table, hubby had a cup of coffee ready for me. YEAH! Next I opened gifts. I got some stick figure stickers for the back window of my car, a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure, 2 pretty shirts, and a beautiful painting that Z made just for me! WOW am I lucky or what?!? We spent the day together shopping and went to Logan’s Roadhouse for a steak dinner.I even got many phone calls, cards in the mail, facebook messages from tons of friends and family. I was even surprised by my dear friend, S. She made me the prettiest birthday cake and brought me a beautiful gift box filled with 100 calorie snacks. She is such a sweetheart! Thank you my dear friend!

I had the most perfect birthday EVER!

I love this painting! I even rushed out to get a frame for it.

Love them!

They guys picked out some pretty shirts!

I just love this cake. Thank you S!

S does the prettiest cakes!

What a thoughtful gift from S!

What a great day!

Now time to eat the cake!

Going to a water party

April 8, 2011 Z went to a friend’s birthday party. The theme was water water water! They played with water balloons, the water hose, and water guns. It was a perfect day outside and they had a blast!

Tough guy

Armed and ready to go!

April 7, 2011 we attended another Pac meeting with the cub scouts. The theme was a campfire. The boys performed little skits and it was so fun to watch. They all did a great job! Our den also shared our den cheer with the Pac. After all the festivities, the boys received awards. The boys in Z’s den each got their basketball belt loop. They just love getting those!

Proud boy!

The day finally came for the pinewood derby, March 26, 2011. The pinewood derby is such a fun cub scout event! Each kid is supposed to make a car that will race in a competition against other cars; basically three cars race against each other. There are many ‘heats’ that the cars race in  and each car will race twice per lane (meaning 6 races per car). We had 50 cars entered in the pinewood derby this year. So that was a lot of racing!

At home, long before the race day, Z and his Dad had worked on making the perfect car. Z didn’t want a typical ‘car’ – he wanted something different from what anyone would bring. He wanted to make a SHARK CAR. So that is just what they did. It took some creative cutting and sanding to shape the plain rectangle piece of wood into a shark car. They had a great time painting it and putting on the fins. I think they did an amazing job! Everyone at the event thought Z’s car was the most original and it got a lot of great comments.  Although he didn’t win a trophy, he won the whole thing because of his winning attitude and cool looking car! Each kid got a unique certificate, ribbon, and badge. It was a great day!

After the derby, Z went to a friend’s birthday party and had a sleepover. Hubby and I even went out to dinner just the two of us!

Proud cub scout showing off his car!

What a great idea and design!

Boys in the den being silly!

Here are what the other cars looked like. Z's was by far the BEST!

Ok, they are still being silly!

Award time!

Good job Z! I am so proud of you!
