Archive for January, 2011

We went to another hockey game on January 29, 2011. It was actually Watch D.O.G (Dads of Great Students) night at the game. Basically all the men who volunteer in the Leander school district schools we invited to the game as a special recognition. We had already tickets before they announced the event, so we were pretty excited to participate in the Watch D.O.G night as well. The game was pretty normal until the third period. We were so close to winning that the tempers were flaring on the ice. I can’t even tell you how many guys had to go to the penalty box for attempting to fight. The game went into sudden death overtime since we scored right before the buzzer and tied the game. Man that stadium was so excited! The overtime ended and nobody scored so the game went to one on one and each team got 5 chances to score. The other team scored twice and we couldn’t even get one in the goal. Needless to say we lost…..but it was a fun night nonetheless.

Going to Jail!

Posted: January 30, 2011 in Cub Scouts

No not really in jail. Ok, let me explain. Z’s cub scout den went on a field trip to the local police department for a tour on January 26, 2011. We also had one boy visit the outing as he is about to join our den. Anyway, the officer who gave us the tour was so nice! The tour was supposed to be a very brief one but turned out to be over an hour long. We got to see just about everything in the department: community affairs, their mailboxes, weapons room, the jail, the garage, a police car, more offices, records room, 911 command center, break area, and the list goes on. The kids loved every bit of the tour but I would venture to guess that the jail was their favorite! They all got locked in the cell, handcuffed to the bench and got mug shot photos as souvenirs. I think the next best thing was playing in the police car. So as you can tell the tour was fabulous! I give a giant thank you to OfficerA! He did an amazing job!

Having so much fun!

How many boys will fit in the back of a police car? 8 will!

Seriously these dogs are eating EVERYTHING! Although they play/eat their own toys, they have had their eye on the cat bed for quite some time now. In fact, the used the middle pillow as a toy since they were little. Well apparently the time came on Sunday, January 23, 2011 to destroy the bed once and for all. So they worked as a team and knocked it out quietly and swiftly! Don’t they look so proud of their work?

This is what I walked in on.

Playing tug of war.

Making sure they got all the stuffing out.

Proud kiddos!

Ceramic party

Posted: January 25, 2011 in Friends

During the school carnival in October I had won a tile party for 4 kids at a local ceramic shop during the school’s silent auction (well I paid for it). Monday, January 17, 2011 the kids were out of school so we decided that would be the day for our party. Z invited B and R, O and J, and J but unfortunately last minute J couldn’t come. The kids had fun painting. Z used some new techniques he learned in art class. Turns out that new technique didn’t work well with ceramic stuff so I had to clean off the tile and start over. Everyone’s tile turned out fabulous! Even the moms got to help out!

After painting at the ceramic store, we took the kids to Gattiland. That place was packed! I have never seen it so busy! They actually had to stop letting people in because they were maxed out. The whole lobby was jam packed with people trying to get in and they only let people in as people left. Glad we got there before the shut down. We had a nice time despite the crowds. Great day with friends~!

Just starting to paint.

O thinking about his theme.

Now blowing on the straw to move the paint puddles.

This is Z's tile in the end after I wiped it clean and we started over. It was a team effort.

These two kids ADORE one another!

We attended the Austin Shrine Circus benefiting the Ben Hur Shriners on Sunday, January 17, 2011. If you are not familiar with the Ben Hur Shriners, they raise money so that any child who can not afford hospital treatment will be able to be treated. They do many other things, but this is such a great cause in my opinion because our future is our children. So with that said, the circus was absolutely AMAZING! We had been to another circus a year or so ago and we loved that circus. But let me tell you, the Austin Shrine Circus was outstanding and blew the other circus out of the water. We had amazing seats and went with a few cub scouts. In fact, we got a price cut on the tickets because of cub scouts. The boys even got a badge for their uniform. Back to the seats, we were the third row from the floor. We saw everything perfectly because not only were we the third row, we were dead center in the arena. Couldn’t ask for anything better!

During intermission, we got to ride on an elephant. That was an amazing ride. I had never done anything like that before. Those are some huge beasts! Makes me appreciate the people who ride them in the circus and do tricks on their backs. You are pretty high off the ground on an elephant. We also got to get autographs from all the clowns. Zachary and J had such a blast running around looking for clowns.

The show was remarkable! There was one silly clown who was just hilarious! He came and picked a man near us from the audience to so onto the stage with him. When the clown and the audience member passed by my husband, he started laughing and pointing at the guy the clown selected. BIG MISTAKE! The clown pulled hubby onto the stage as well. We laughed and yelled and laughed some more. It was so funny to see Z’s daddy on the stage with a clown – he hates clowns. Anyway, the clown made the men dance and do a trick. I took one picture of it but the rest is on video. Z was so excited to have his daddy in the show and hubby was a good sport about it.

I absolutely love the big cats! I wish I could be in there with them!

The elephants were amazing!

Loving the show!

Me and my boy!

See how close we are to the stage?

This guy did some amazing stunts!

This clown's name was Spaz.

Looking back through the program at all the autographs.

this guy was great at juggling.

Yep! Cotton candy!

Great seats! More elephants.

This is the clown that snatched B to join the show.

B is next to the clown in the dark blue shirt. The clown made them all dance. It was so funny!

Saturday, January 8, 2011, was our first time to go to a hockey game. I had been before when I was probably Z’s age but don’t really remember much except they get to slam up against the glass and fights occur. Well, things were just the same as when I was 6. They slammed up against the glass and we even got to see a full on fight. The energy was awesome in the sports center even though the Texas Stars lost. We had such a great time! We have tickets to go back this month. We can’t wait! While we were there we saw our friends’, the C family, there and they were only a few sections down from us.

We had really good seats. We were right behind one of the goals

Where is the C family? Can you spot them?

Our pucks for the "chuck a puck" fundraiser

"Chuck a puck time" - you had to get your puck in the bed of the truck. We got one in there.

Time to scream!

Full blown fight! They took off their helmets and everything.

This game is two thumbs up!

Another fight. They broke out all the time.

Ok, we are a bit silly.

Having fun!

Gotta love the Stars dancers!

I'm ready to be goaly!

Even though it was New Year’s Eve, we were still celebrating Christmas. We had Papa R and E over on December 31 and visited for a while. Z rode his new skateboard and took the dogs for a walk. E and I chit chatted most the afternoon. I even updated the blog some. Later in the afternoon, we met my brother-in-law and his family at Chuy’s for our Christmas dinner together then everyone came back to the house to exchange gifts. We had such a great time with everyone! I can’t believe how much my nieces and nephew have grown. Z said it was the best day because he got to see his cousins. He absolutely LOVES THEM and MISSES not seeing them so often.

My brother-in-law and his family left just before midnight and  Papa R and E spent the night. Z, B and I stayed up until midnight and gave our new year kisses and passed out! What a great day with family!

Z's cousins!

Love this picture of E
