Z had art class at Hobby Lobby today and Daddy took him so I could prepare for playgroup at our house. Each month our playgroup had a letter theme and this months theme is  the letter “I” so I decided to do “interesting things” for our theme. I had a bunch of science experiments planned for the kids and the back yard was filled with balls and things for them to do and I also had some snacks. We had 15 moms show up and about 25 kids and 3 infants. Hubby is still home since he left his job at Dell so he was able to play and help with the experiments. Besides, the kids just love Mr. B! He is a big kid himself.

We all had such a great time. It was fun to see everyone getting time to chat amongst friends and all the kids got along very well. Z did have some crying episodes, but we are working on that. He is just so sensitive and doesn’t like rough play so he cries when he is upset. We have decided to toughen him up a bit because I am afraid his friends will end up teasing him for crying so much.

After we got everything picked up, we went to a new fast food place for burgers and frozen custard. It was yummy. I would say it was a great day!

Ok this needs explaining. Hubby aired up a ball and it exploded. So of course the kids had to take turns wearing the busted ball as a hat. This is Z under the ball hat.

Spiderman!

On January 17 we went to J’s 4th birthday party. It was so fun and the kids got to play pin the mask on Spiderman as well and playing soccer in the backyard. C made a wonderful cake and had the best sandwiches. I always love other people’s sandwiches better than ones I make. For some reason they taste so yummy to me! And don’t even get me started on her Guacamole! YUMMY!!! Oh yeah….more about the party. J’s party theme was Spiderman and he was so lucky because Spidy himself came to visit J on his birthday. The kids were thrilled! Z couldn’t wait to take his picture with him. Thanks for inviting us to such a fun party!

The other morning while eating breakfast, hubby noticed that a turkey vulture was sitting in our back yard. Anyone that knows vultures knows that if they are hanging around on the ground, something has died. Well, he went outside to see what was up and found one of the deer that routinely comes to our back yard dead with a broken leg. (Our backyard backs up to a greenbelt and we always see deer out back.) I called animal control and they came out right away. They said they could call someone to come and dispose of the body, but now with a few turkey vultures hovering nearby, hubby didn’t want to rob them of a meal. Animal control agreed it would be good for the vultures to dispose of the deer instead of hauling it off. The next day we waited and only a couple of vultures made their way by to check out the body. We were getting a little concerned that maybe we had made the wrong decision. Well, yesterday afternoon, we went outside and to our shock and amazement we had about 20 vultures on our roof and about 20 more on the neighbors’ roof. It was an awesome sight to see the massive birds with at least 6 foot wing spans all over our yard. When we went out to take pictures they got a little spooked and started to take off. It was an amazing sound to hear them take off and they do not leave the ground quietly. Much wing and air noise. Anyhow, here are a few shots that we could get after we scared them. Of course Z was amazed with all of this and ran in the greenbelt to see the dead animal. He wasn’t even shocked. He asked us to take some pictures for him. Weird kid but I will still scrapbbok the event.

I must add that today, Jan 16, it was facinating to watch these birds fill the sky. There were HUNDREDS out there today!!!! Now I am not one who can handle nature normally, but for some reason I have really been interested in this whole process. Besides, I have a child now and some things have to change in fear you will condition him one way or the other. (I will still not touch a lizard, a worm or a snake though – I must draw the line somewhere!) Anyway, they are amazing how they all take turns and “guard” the site from intruders.

Children’s Museum

Jan 13 was the da we celebrated Z’s completion of his 10 day bike riding chart. He was to ride his bike for 10 days in a row because we couldn’t get him to ride his bike otherwise. Now he is addicted to riding it. So once he rode it for 10 days, he picked going to the Children’s Museum as his reward. We sure had a nice time there! We are so proud that Z completed his chart and now wants to take his trianing wheels off. Looks like another chart is coming soon 🙂

Jan 11 was another typical day at our house. Z wanted to go outside and play and ride his bike. One thing that Z loves to do is hook up the red wagon to his bike and drag it around. Hubby decided to be funny and jump in the wagon and make the kid pull him. They didn’t move fast or far! Then later in the day, A came over to ride her bike too and then she got in the wagon. What is up with people wanting Z to pull them around 🙂 It makes for a cute picture though 🙂

Jan 9 was a good time to break out the science kit Santa brought Z. Daddy and Z mixed colored water and turned that water into crystals. Z really had a wonderful time doing it.

On Jan 9, Z decided to take a bike ride to his friend A’s house to leave a picture on her front door. (She lives in the neighborhood but a mile away.) So Daddy walked along with him to A’s house. Z rode his bike the entire way there and they even took another route home through the park. The bike ride was 2 miles total. Needless to say when Z got home, he was sore and sweaty!

Today was a fun day! Z got to have his friend R over to play from our playgroup and I got to visit with S and L for a little bit before S took L home to nap. We all had such a wonderful time today. And the kids played so well together and shared beautifully! We even invited R to stay for dinner. I let the kids choose what they were going to eat and they picked Chicken Nuggets. Hubby and I had baked chicken and the same fixin’s as the kids. I can’t get Z to eat chicken that is not breaded so nuggets it was 🙂 We had a nice time sitting down with the kids for dinner. Poor R didn’t want to go home because she was having so much fun. That just means we will have to have her over again to play.

January 2 was a BEAUTIFUL day outside! The weather felt like summer. Well, ok, maybe spring…but you get the idea! Our friends D, J and A invited us to go with them to Kiddie Acres and we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend the day with friends outside! The kids had an absolute blast! I so love watching Z’s face when he picks what ride he wants to ride next. He gets so excited when he picks the ride and asks for the needed ticket to ride. I am not sure which ride was the best…..ferris wheel, airplanes, merry go round, train, cars, boats or the pony ride. Of course they had to ride a few of the rides over and over again 🙂

We got Z a cool Mario Race Track for Christmas and they finally set it up last night. I had to get some pictures of them playing because they were just having so much fun and laughing so hard! I even got some video of them playing. It is mostly laughing though 🙂 Enjoy the pictures.
