Carving pumpkins

Sunday, October 18, 2009 was such a beautiful day outside. Hubby got up and mowed the yard while I did a few chores inside. Then I took my car for an oil change and got both our cars washed. Z played with the neighbor boys down the street and hubby worked on our Halloween decorations. It was such a great day! While I was at the grocery store, Z and hubby carved our pumpkins. Hubby took some great pictures for me and the pumpkins turned out great!

After we ate dinner and while Z was getting his shower, I packed a big boo bag for him and left it on the front porch. So just before bed, I asked the guys to show me their pumpkins. When Z opened the door his eyes lit up! He was thrilled that he got booed and with such a big bag! I had some magnetic monsters for him, some reflectors for Halloween night, a cool cup, tattoos, his favorite full sized candy, his own gum, and some cookies. He was on cloud 9. It was such a great day! And we are so ready for Halloween! (Of course I didn’t get a picture of the boo bag. Hey I had to rush….)

Our pumpkin plant

Ok, last Halloween, we carved pumpkins on the back porch. Well apparently we didn’t do a good job at picking up all the seeds. Look at what we have now. We think it is pretty cool! The flowers it bloomed were really big and quite pretty!

This thing has a mind of its' own. It grows more and more everyday. It is about 15 feet long as of the 10th of October. I am sure it is way longer now that a couple days have passed.

Early release day at school

Yesterday, Wednesday September 23, was a half day at school and it was raining outside. We didn’t let that stop our fun. Z and I set up his chore chart/token system and he is 100% on board! Basically he gets tokens for each chore completed on his own. And when he has 25 tokens he can trade that for $1. Do I know the way to my kid’s heart or what?!?! He got 12 tokens yesterday and he only did the afterschool and evening chores. He is so excited! And as of this morning he has earned 5 tokens. OK, back to our day yesterday…. After the chart was in place, we had cake that we made the day before, then Z read 3 books to me (that was a chore) and then we played silly games and listened to more silly songs on the computer. Next out came the paints. Z set up a table with a big book on it and that was his example of what he was going to paint. He ended up painting 3 beautiful paintings from the book. Then he made a picture for his teacher. I even got to scrapbook a few pages. We still had time before dinner so he played on Webkinz for a bit. Lastly we all went to Moonies for spirit night (fundraiser for Z’s school). It was another great day!

Rainy day so we stayed inside to play

Tuesday, September 22, was supposed to be a park day with friends but it was raining outside. So we made the most of it.  Z played with his homemade gun that his Daddy made for him out of a paper towel roll and toilet paper rolls. We sang silly songs, played smell my feet, baked a cake and played backgammon. We had a great day!

Silly songs we sang:

Fried Ham, Fried Ham: Cheese and Bologna: And after the macaroni: We’ll have fun with: Pickles and Pretzels: And then we’ll have some more fried ham: Fried ham, fried ham, fried ham.

You can listed to it at this link: http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/2008/01/fried-ham.html

God Bless my underwear, my only pair: Stand beside them, and guide them: As they sit in a heap by the chair: From the washer, to the clothes line: To my camp cake, to my rear: God bless my underwear, my only pair: God bless my underwear, or I’ll  be bare!

You can see this song and other goofy ones at this link: http://gsleaders.org/files/sillysong.htm#GodBless

We just had a great day!

Fun day with Mom!

After Z’s first day of VBS, July 27 2009, we came home and ate lunch. Then we baked chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing. Of course we had to deliver some to a few friends in the neighborhood. Z just loves to do that! Then Z made a few shirts with fabric markers. He had so much fun making them and has worn them to bed every night since. Z and I had such a nice, relaxing day at home. I cherish days like that!

June 23 – July 3, 2009 – Travels to Indiana

Z and I went to Indiana to attend my grandfather’s funeral and to catch up with family. We left on a Tuesday morning and it was hard to say by to hubby since we were going to be gone for 10 days. Our flights were ok but it was great to finally be done with them. I can’t stay awake on airplanes. Good thing I have a perfect kid to fly with! It was fun for a little boy to take a truck to the airport, then an airplane, then a train to go to the next terminal when in Houston, then another airplane, then a car to take us to the house. He told that story to anyone who would sit still and listen. It was pretty cool I guess! Did I mention we rode on those riding sidewalks? Kids LOVE those!

Anyway, my uncle was at the airport to pick us up and drive us to Lafayette, Indiana. We stayed at my cousin’s house. She has 3 kids, ages 4, 6, and 10 so Z would not be bored! Those kids played from sun up to well past sun down! Seriously, they didn’t hit the pillows any earlier than 1 or 2 AM each night! Catching lightening bugs is about the coolest thing for a kid to do at night! Our visit was very nice! I got to see family that we don’t get to see often and I even got to meet some of my other cousin’s children for the first time. The funeral was very sweet and the kids were very respectful and quiet during the service. All the other days we just played and hung out with my awesome family: Grandma A, Aunt P, Uncle B, cousin H and her kids, cousin A and her daughter. It was hard to leave then behind when it came time to go home. But we missed hubby/daddy terribly and so wished he could have joined us.

Happy Father’s Day!

June 21 2009, was Father’s Day! Z and I got up really early and went to Shipley donuts and picked out hubby’s favorite things, and a few extras, and came home and set the table with all the gifts and a cup of coffee. Z woke up his Daddy and led him into the kitchen. Z and I had decorated the kitchen table with streamers, a t-shirt/hat gift, and crafts Z made for his Daddy. We had a nice breakfast! Later that day, hubby had to get some work done, so Z and I went out to run some errands. Hubby needed the quiet time and since it was Father’s Day, we gave in. I hate that he had to work on Father’s Day but I am so grateful to have him in my life and that he is a WONDERFUL Daddy! I love you honey!

Big helper at the grocery store and goofy hat

June 14, I went to the grocery store and Z pushed the cart and was such a big helper. Don’t get me wrong, we go to the store all the time and he is a big helper all the time, but this time I actually took a picture with my IPhone. I just had to share. Then we came home and played in the back yard. Z put a ball that had popped on his head like a hat. Silly boy!

Big storm

June 11 we had a big storm hit us FAST! The tornado sirens kept going off all night and the lights flickered. We had hail and really weird clouds that were perfect for a tornado. We had some hit nearby but we were safe.
